Crisis Intervention Scenarios
After reviewing the scenarios, links and sources, write a step by step response to each of the scenarios detailing how you would screen and evaluate the situation. Include referral information and confidentiality and ethical issues. Justify your response with specific examples and details from the sources and text book. If you do not think the scenario is a crisis, explain what factors determined that.

Scenario one
Read the Power Point and the scenario at the end of it. How would you explain the cycle of grief and loss to Ms. B's family?
Scenario two
You are a substance abuse counselor at an outpatient adolescent treatment center. Joey seems to be quieter than usual today. His clothes are dirty and he has not showered, which is unlike him. At the end of group you meet with him briefly in the hallway and ask him how he is. He says, "it doesn't matter, it will all be over soon." You remember that his foster mother called yesterday and reported that all of her medications were taken from her bathroom yesterday. You did not immediately suspect Joey, and had forgotten about it until now. You wonder if he may be suicidal.
Scenario three
You are a family outreach worker at a child development center. There are a few families who you provide intensive case management for as a requirement for them to receive daycare assistance. You have become very close and friendly with one of the young moms, and she confided in you that her boyfriend is an alcoholic and often beats her up. She explained that the final straw was him punching the toddler last night in the stomach in order to get her to come out of the locked bathroom. She is afraid, and refused to call the police. She said she will figure this out, but does not want to get him in trouble.
Scenario four
You are a life skills counselor who teaches emotionally disturbed youth how to integrate in the community, regulate emotions, cope with stress, and socialize. Today you are scheduled to work with Michael, a 15 year old who has a mild form of FASD. Lately he has been challenging you and pushing your limits. It is one of his goals to get physical exercise every day so today you are going to a basketball court. As you are driving down the road discussing his day at school, he is agitated and iritable and tells you of a teacher who always picks on him. He grabs your rearview mirror and rips it off and begins kicking your windshield. You immediately pull over to a safe place with a clear plan to deescalate this situation.
What do you do now? What should you have done differently?
